Golisano Foundation Awards Grant to Wyoming County SPCA
Wyoming County SPCA is the recipient of a $2500 Golisano Foundation Covid-19 Response Grant through a new trust component of the Foundation, Bailey and Friends. The Golisano Foundation and Wyoming County SPCA president Julie Long made the announcement of the grant in a joint statement today.
“Given the community health concerns associated with the Covid-19 contagion we needed to be prepared to assist our community if called upon to do so. Although this time has been challenging many of the pets in our care found loving homes which has been wonderful!" WCSPCA President Long said
With all facets of fundraising events not an option right now, WCSPCA financial resources have been negatively affected. This grant from Bailey and Friends will help Wyoming County SPCA fund the resources needed right now to maintain the high standards of care and nutrition provided for the animals.
“And it’s particularly critical now, as this time of year is the season for newborn kittens. In anticipation of this and a possible increase in pet surrenders, we applied for this grant to help us fund the cost of the additional medical supplies needed,” added Long.
Covid-19 contagion has brought about some community financial challenges that may result in more families seeking to surrender their pet. WCSPCA hopes to work with these folks to avoid this.
Noted Golisano Foundation Director Ann Costello, “Bailey and Friends, named for Tom Golisano’s rescue dog Bailey, is dedicated to supporting animal welfare in Western New York and Southwest Florida. This new initiative, launched just last November, is committed to working with shelters, rescue groups, veterinary clinics and other lifesaving programs to promote wellness, ensure safety and keep family and pets together, particularly during the restrictive and difficult period.”
During the NYS Pause Order, the WCSPCA shelter is open by appointment only. Normal Wyoming County SPCA hours are every day, including Saturdays and Sundays, from 1pm to 4pm, with Tuesday hours from 1 pm to 7 pm. The shelter is located at 808 Creek Road in Attica.
Wyoming County SPCA, founded in 1905, is funded solely by donations and grants. Its policy of spaying and neutering pets prior to adoption provides a point of difference from many shelters. WCSPCA is a non-profit organization operated largely by volunteers. If you wish to volunteer with the SPCA, contact us at 585-591-3114.
